DJ Equipment and training
Whether you’re a new DJ or complete novice we have the right courses for you. Experienced and current DJs are also welcome to attend our training events and we are confident you will be glad you did. There is so much to learn about this industry that you may have a lack of exposure to.
We can show you how to improve on your existing skills and increase your work or business. Our Disc Jockey Academy hosts training courses over two days in Ohio for the beginner and current DJ. Our experienced Disc Jockey instructors will take you through everything you need to know to become a competent Disc jockey. The courses are usually over weekends but can be during the week. All equipment and music will be supplied but accommodation and food will be at your expense. We do have a food facility at the Academy and local hotels and motels are close by.
The two day training event is very demanding and we do pack plenty of information into the program. If you are willing to learn and have the right attitude you may receive a job offer from us after successful completion of the program. We will pay you an excellent rate once you start to work with us and even while you are being trained and developed. We turn out some of the best DJs available and train you in a relaxed non intimidating way. Please call or email us for our training dates. - Equipment Selection and Purchase
Here we will cover every aspect of selecting and purchasing your first DJ equipment. The selection of your equipment is crucial to your survival as a DJ. These are your tools of the trade and you cannot compromise on quality here unless you want a breakdown in the middle of an event. There are so many different brands it can become confusing and the price ranges vary considerably. We discuss online purchasing and traditional stores. We will discuss everything down to the last light bulb and cable that you may need as well as music subscriptions and obtaining and building a music library.
- Beat Mixing with Music Playing and Selection
The quality mixing of music is something you do not here from an ordinary DJ. In fact most DJs other than those from the Academy do not have the required skills to be able to blend music and let it flow, they struggle here and it shows. Here at the Academy we will show you and teach you the skills you need to effectively play music at any event. Music policy and selection is extremely important too. The choosing of music one after another is not as easy or simple as it sounds.
This is the one that lets many a good DJ down. They may play the music well but as soon as they talk or shout into the microphone they lose the crowd. The common mistakes are the screaming over zealous DJ and the famous muffled announcements you hear at weddings. Academy DJs are taught the art of voice projection and the RSVP that said is the Rhythm and Speed with the Volume and Pitch.
- Event Knowledge and Management
Here we take you through each and every event in turn from playing in clubs to performing at Bar Mitzvahs. There are lots of procedure and items to learn for each specific event. Gone are the days of the old DJ just turning up and selecting music (although they are still out there) We will walk you through each event and have mock up situations. We actually use some former clients to play various roles. We simulate a Bride and Groom as well as a Mitzvah boy and girl. You will know by the end of this session how to perform at each event, obviously you will not have the experience but this will come later. Event management is all about customer care with some sales and marketing. We will cover items related to looking after and keeping clients.
On our course you will have your first performance as a DJ live in front of a real crowd. It sounds daunting but after two full days with the training team you will be ready to fly solo and experience a real gig in a local night spot.
Depending on where you live you will be offered an immediate placement on successful completion of the program. You will work closely with an experienced DJ and will attend local events together where you will receive on the job tutoring and gain valuable experience. During this phase we will pay you an excellent rate and help you gather your equipment. The work is there for the right people and the full time rate you can earn will be much higher than you expected.
